I worked as the lead Industrial Designer for the SPM Case project. This case study aimed to assess the market need for a mountable case specifically designed for the SPM. The prototype case was showcased at trade shows and presented to potential end-users. My responsibilities included generating initial sketch concepts for internal circulation. Once the team selected a concept direction, I translated that into a physical prototype. I utilized SolidWorks and SLS 3D printing to create a functional prototype. The project involved developing a series of proof-of-concept prototypes to identify the most effective clamping solution for various styles of surfaces and bars.
Product Requirements

Button Access: Access to the top navigation buttons is required when the case is installed.

.5"
2"
Clamp Range: The case needed to be mounted to a variety of bar shapes and sizes, ranging from 0.5 inches to 2.0 inches.

Port Access: All six net warrior ports needed to be accessible when the case was installed.

Versatile Clamp: It was necessary to mount on various sized bar diameters and fit onto differently shaped bars.

Clamp Ideation
A series of proof-of-concept prototypes were developed to explore various clamping solutions suited for different scenarios in which the case would be used. These functional prototypes were tested to validate their effectiveness and ease of use before selecting the final design.

The touch points of the SPM case were designed to be properly sized for use with a gloved hand while remaining low profile to prevent accidental unlatching or loosening.

Versatile Clamp
To accommodate a wide range of use cases, the clamp was designed to be versatile and adjustable. The clamp interface is designed to accommodate a range of different cross-section clamping profiles and has an adjustment range of 0.5" to 2".

To provide greater flexibility in mounting options, the back plate of the case features an indexed rotational plate, allowing users to rotate the clamp 360 degrees in the Z-plane.
